Calgary New & Used Ski Sale 2011
An annual service to skiing since 1963 by the Calgary Ski Club, the Canadian Ski Patrol System and the Lake Louise Ski Club
CROSS COUNTRY EQUIPMENT APPRAISAL
The rapid change in XC boot/binding systems has resulted in a growing number of obsolete systems.
The Sale committee will only accept modern binding systems – Salomon SNS or New Nordic Norm NNN. We will still accept three- pin cable bindings as well as modern Backcountry SNS and NNN bindings. We will NOT accept any system for which the public would have difficulty obtaining parts and service (e.g. Look, Adidas, Geze, Reme, Tyrolia or the old 50, 73 or 79 mm three-pin bindings).
ALL goods should be clean with no dirt, road salt, old XC ski waxes or other soiling.
We want to be able to check ski camber by sliding paper under a clean ski base.
We want our customers to be able to go skiing immediately with no hassle after purchasing goods.
Reject Cross Country Skis if:
1. If they have NOT been cleaned of wax or klister (thereby preventing a ski camber test).
2. Skis are old wooden light touring skis
3. There is no effective camber remaining.
4. Binding screws cannot be tightened.
5. Repairs have been poorly done.
6. Edges are torn or badly worn; Bases are badly scratched or gouged.
7. Waxless (fishscale) ski bases are badly worn or if ski wax fills the hollows
8. There are structural defects such as delaminations.
9. More than two sets of binding holes are visible.
Reject Bindings if:
1. Parts are missing or damaged.
2. They are an obsolete or "orphaned" system for which parts may be unavailable
eg. Old Adidas, Look, Geze, Reme, Tyrolia, 50, 73 or 79 mm three- pin bindings.
- They are Plastic 75 mm (three-pin) bindings.
- They are three-pin 75 mm light touring bindings (heavy duty three-pin with cable bindings are acceptable)
- Accept only modern binding systems – SNS or NNN or Backcountry SNS or NNN or cable bindings.
Reject Boots if:
1. Boots are cracked or soles are separating.
2. Pin holes are ripped; bars are bent or broken.
3. Toes are badly curled up.
4. Boots are very worn.
5. Zippers are broken or damaged
5. Torsional and/or lateral rigidity is low or absent. (They can be twisted easily)
- Boot uses an orphaned binding system as outlined above. (Adidas, Look, etc.)
- Only accept modern boots using binding systems outlines above.
Reject Poles if:
1. Baskets, straps, handgrips or tips are missing or damaged.
2. Poles are cracked or badly bent.
3. Do not accept bamboo poles. They are easily split, splinter, or break.
4. Pair is mis-matched as to size
Reject Roller Skis if:
1. Wheel wear is bad or abnormal
2. Frame or wheel supports are cracked.
PLEASE NOTE:
Avalanche Transceivers will NOT be accepted as we cannot ascertain satisfactory operation.
Their small size and relatively high value also poses a security problem.
